It’s A Pity

It’s a pity that there aren’t more articles on how to maintain your computer properly.  This is one of the most important things to do, in my opinion.  There are just too many stupid things that can go wrong at any one time.  Of course, it’s hard to stay on top of everything at once.  That’s why there are software programs to help you out with this kind of stuff.

One of the biggest threats is malware distribution.  Malware is one of the most annoying problems on the internet.  It doesn’t just mess things up like a virus (although it certainly does mess things up).  It tends to seek to destroy data as well as collect it and send it along to a third party person.  Sometimes this can result in identity theft.  This is obviously a problem.

What has caused the rise in identity theft?  One article has an idea:

As a result of the 2008 economic meltdown, where thousands of jobs were lost, opportunity and motivation for identity theft and information system sabotage has increased. In Florida alone, unemployment increased to a staggering 12.2%. This is reported to be the highest since the state began keeping count in 1970. It topped the previous documented record of 11.9% in May 1975, and exceeded the national average of 9.7% in February (Harrington, 2010). Therefore, it can be reasonable deduced that there are some who may pose a threat to seek easier or unethical means of obtaining things or take out frustrations on the unsuspecting, as desperate times usually result in desperate measures. Due to negligence or lack of knowledge and/or concerns, these threats can turn into misfortune for those companies or individuals on the receiving end.

Chekwa, Charles, et al. “Information security threats: what is public versus private sector’s perception?” International Journal of Business and Public Administration [IJBPA] 10.1 (2013): 87+.

That’s not the only reason.  There is also the increase of online transactions as the internet has become a very common household tool over the last 5-10 years, even moreso in the last few years as broadband speeds have increased and the cost has dropped.

So what can one do to mitigate the risk?  Spyware removal software tools such as Spyhunter 4 can help tremendously in terms of helping the average user to protect their computer and their information.
